Belleville Police Service responded to 50 calls for service from November 8, 2018 at 5 a.m. to November 9, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Shoplifters
Belleville – On November 8, 2018 shortly before 8 a.m. police attended a north end retail store with regards to two adult shoplifters. The two shoplifters fled the store as police arrived. Police arrested a 65-year-old female after a brief foot chase and a 52-year-old male was arrested a short distance away. Both parties are being held for a bail hearing with a request for a three day hold to further the investigation due to outstanding charges from other jurisdictions and the fact that documentation was found on one of the parties indicating their intent to leave the country in the near future.
Belleville – On November 8, 2018 shortly before 7 p.m. police attended a North Front St. retail store with regards to a theft involving two males. Both males were observed on video participating in the theft and leaving the store. Police located the two males in a vehicle in the city’s east end a short time later and they were arrested for theft. Other stolen property was located in the car as well. Thirty-one-year-old Belleville resident David Ashley was released on a promise to appear with charges of theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under $5000. He was given a December court date to answer to the charges. The second male, a 27-year-old Belleville resident, is being held for a bail hearing on November 9 on charges of theft under $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000 and possession of a prohibited weapon in relation to a butterfly knife that was located on him during the arrest.
Break and Enter
Belleville – At 12:10 a.m. on November 9, police responded to the former home of Quinte Secondary in relation to a number of alarms being activated. Upon arrival, the initial officer on scene located a broken window on the west side of the building and notified other responding officers of such. While arriving, a second officer observed a male running from the school eastbound before scaling the chain link fence into the Metro plaza parking lot. A third responding officer was in position to quickly respond to the Metro Plaza parking lot and arrested the suspect without incident. The 46-year-old Belleville resident was taken to Belleville Police Service where he is being held for a bail hearing on November 9 on a charge of break and enter with the intent of committing an indictable offence therein.
