The collision that closed the 401 yesterday near Kingston is being blamed for a second collision in detour traffic.
OPP officers from both the Napanee and Frontenac detachments responded to an incident where a car entered the highway at Gardiners Road heading westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Two vehicles were involved in the collision which sent an 85-year-old woman to hospital with critical injuries.
The collision caused the highway to be closed for several hours.
A secondary accident occurred in the slowed traffic east of County Road 4 in the eastbound lanes involving three cars and a transport trailer.
That collision led to a second closure for two hours at County Road 4. There were only minor injuries as a result of the second collision.
