A Quinte West OPP officer will avoid being charged following a collision in Belleville last year.
The Special Investigations Unit has cleared the driver of an OPP vehicle that crashed into a civilian car at the intersection of Sidney Street and Dundas Street on November 9, 2017.
Serious injuries were sustained by the officer and two occupants of the civilian vehicle.
SIU Director Tony Loparco said Friday there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges against the driver of the police vehicle.
This is due in large part to the fact that the civilian vehicle (who was coming out of Sidney Street) had pulled out in front of the police vehicle, which was going straight on Dundas Street with no turning indication.
It was also determined that the police vehicle had attempted to avoid the collision by braking and maneuvering to the right.
