It was a good morning Friday for the Royal Canadian Legion, Brighton Branch 100 as Brighton Rotary presented a cheque for $10,000 toward the roof fund.
The Legion supports war veterans, as well as many charitable organizations and individuals in need throughout the community, but this time executive members found themselves in need.
President Stew Sharp said that for the first time since the Legion opened in 1949, the Legion is putting its hand out for support in its efforts to have a new roof installed.
Sharp said the roof has been bad for years, but it’s gotten so bad recently that they’ve had to close the Legion during periods of heavy rain.
Funds raised through the Legion lottery and the Poppy Fund cannot be used for building expenses.
Rotarian Clay Samis, who is also a member of the Legion, brought the idea to Rotary three weeks ago, and the idea was supported unanimously.
