Firefighters battled through 80 km/h winds as they fought a house fire in Cramahe Township on Monday.
According to northumberlandnews.com about $400,000 damage was done to the home, on Van Wicklin Lane, after flames ripped through it around 3:00 p.m.
A neighbour reported the fire and the paper says the homeowner only found out what happened after getting a call from police early Tuesday morning.
Cramahe Township Assistant Fire Chief Tim Burgess says it took 35 firefighters from Cramahe, Trent Hills, Brighton and Alnwick-Haldimand almost six hours to get the fire under control.
The scene wasn’t cleared until close to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday and a cause has not been released.
