Earning a 7th degree martial arts black belt is a rare accomplishment that takes decades to achieve. Having two in the same household might be a first for Canada.
Bob and Bev Leonard, owners of the Trent Valley Karate Club were presented with their 7th degree belts in jiu jitsu by the President of the Canadian Council Bob Walters at a surprise ceremony on Wednesday night.
Bob Leonard is a survivor of cancer. He passed to the 1st degree black belt in 1987. He says it has been a long journey.
Bev Leonard earned her first black belt in 1988. She doesn’t think of herself as being a teacher.
Bev Leonard is the only woman in Canada on the national Jiu Jitsu Council.
