The United Way of Quinte helps thousands of local residents, but they need a lot of help to do it.
The largest individual supporter is philanthropist Maurice Rollins.
The Maurice Rollins Leadership Challenge saw him match funds donated by individual leaders.
Over the ten years of the program, Rollins has donated $500,000, and the program leveraged another $1.7 million.
On Tuesday night at Capers in Belleville, Rollins was honoured for his great work within the program.
United Way of Quinte Executive Director Kathy Murphy,
Rollins tells Quinte News he cannot say enough good things about the United Way.
He says they help a lot of people.
His matching began at $25,000, and has since upped his donation to $100,000.
The program brings in about 15 percent of the total funds raised annually.
There was also a special commemoration to his 10 years with the dedication of a Norther Red Oak tree on the South Foster parking lot on the Belleville Waterfront trail.
