“Waiter Boy” was the name he went by 15 years ago. Then the name Ryan Malcolm became as well known as any an Canadian in 2003.
Malcolm, a native of Amherstview, and a graduate of Napanee District Secondary School, was the first winner of Canadian Idol.

Malcolm tells Quinte News he cannot believe 15 years have passed.
The show was massive when it first aired. Malcolm says the attention was something he never had experienced.
At one point in the show, Malcolm was eliminated.
He says when his name was announced, it was all a fog.
