The city of Belleville took part in a nation-wide initiative aimed at fighting hunger in our country Friday morning.
Gleaners Food Bank was the site of the 3rd annual Great MPP & City of Belleville Mayor & Council Food Sort, which is a part of September’s Hunger Action Month.
The campaign encourages participants to help end hunger and poverty in the community through four key actions; education, advocating for others, volunteerism and making donations.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith joined forces with Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher and volunteers to sort food into various categories to be sent off to people in need.
The event included a tour of Gleaners and the Tri-County Warehouse, along with the food sort.
This event is a precursor to Gleaners’ annual Food Drive, which runs on Sunday, October 14.
