Emergency responders are being praised for their efforts in attempting to rescue a man from the Trent River near Batawa today.
The Quinte West Fire Department responded to a call of a possible drowning, near Lock 4 in Batawa, just before 2:00 this afternoon.
Fire Chief John Whelan says an OPP officer and firefighters jumped into the water and were able to locate the man, but he couldn’t be revived.
Whelan says the large boat was stationary at the time and the man may have been trying to fix a problem with its motor when the incident occurred.
No details have been released on the victim.
