It’s been 3 short months since the Wellington Dukes played in the final game of the RBC Cup National Junior “A” hockey championship in Chilliwack B.C. Tonight it all begins all over again for the defending OJHL champions when they host the rival Cobourg Cougars at the Lehigh Arena.
There are only five returning players from the team that came within a period of winning the national title. However a perfect 4-0 pre season record will do nothing to curb expectations for a long run again this year.
Head coach John Druce, who joined the Dukes mid way through last year learned a lot about this years team during the exhibition season.
Druce says most of the faces might be different but their goal is the same.
Returning from last years’ championship team are Andrew Rinaldi, Daniel Panetta, Zach Uens, Nelson Powers and Dawson Ellis.
Game time tonight is 7:30. Wellington will also host the Georgetown Raiders Sunday afternoon at 1:30.
The Trenton Golden Hawks will open their season one week from tonight when they host the Whitby Fury.
