The Hastings Prince Edward health unit intends to “look into” concerns about reports of “marijuana dealers” right in area schools.
At Wednesday’s meeting of the Board of Health, Rick Phillips, Mayor of Tyendinaga Township and board member, told the board “cannabis is so available students are setting up shop in schools, which is alarming to parents.”
Another board member Mayor of Tweed Jo-Anne Albert pointed out Ontario has the highest number of people in the world using cannabis.
The health unit is launching a public education campaign about the health dangers of marijuana but is still awaiting instructions from the province on its role around the legalization.

Oglaza says he will work with the schools on education about the dangers of cannabis. “We recognize, as public health, cannabis has significant, not fully known, effects on the public once it becomes legalized.”
Program Director Roberto Almeida tells Quinte News staff members are putting together an education campaign “for key audiences like youth, parents, drivers.”
