Officials at Warkworth Institution are reporting the death of an inmate while in custody.
Acting Assistant Warden Dave Stephens says 61 year-old John Manuel Santos died of apparent natural causes this past Saturday.
Santos had been serving an indeterminate sentence for robbery, sexual assault and uttering death threats since September of 1994.
Stephens says the family has been notified and that, as in all cases of a death in custody, the Correctional Service of Canada is reviewing the incident and will notify the police and coroner if needed.
