A significant and prominent piece of property on Wellington’s Main Street is going to undergo some work.
At the committee of the whole meeting on Thursday afternoon, council in Prince Edward County decided it would like to finally see the convenience store relocated and the intersection realigned.
Councillor Steve Graham was happy to see this moving forward as he felt they have done their due diligence.
Council originally purchased the property at 282 Main Street in 2015.
The preferred option was to realign the creek under Wharf Street but will now see the creek moved around the property with the relocation of the building.
Council had originally wanted to demolish the building but public concerns over the loss of re-sale value led to the relocation of the building.
Councillor Roy Pennell wanted to be sure they as a councillers wouldn’t be spending money unnecessarily and if there was interest in the property once all the work was completed.
Neil Carbone, the Director of Community Development, told council there is already interest in the property, once the work is done.
The cost of this project comes with a $980,000 price tag and the updated costs will be included in the 2019 budget discussions.
A final vote on this decision will come on September 11.
