The Haliburton, Kawartha and Pineridge District Health Unit is preparing for this fall’s legalization of marijuana.
Back in June, Board of Health officials heard that cannabis use in the health unit’s area is at 50 per cent, above the provincial rate of 40 per cent.
The Health Unit is working to provide programs about substance use to students in schools and working with school boards and municipalities to help prepare for the change in legislation.
According to a 2015 Canadian Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug survey, Canadians between 18 and 25 have higher rates of cannabis consumption than the rest of the population.
