Belleville Police Service responded to 37 calls for service from August 20, 2018 at 5:00 a.m. to August 21, 2018 at 5:00 a.m.
Criminal Harassment
On August 8, 2018 at 8 p.m., police responded to a report of harassment at an east end apartment building. As a result of the investigation, a 60-year-old male was warned with regards to his harassing behaviour towards a female tenant and was told to cease any further contact. On August 20, the male was arrested as he did not heed the police warning and continued to harass the victim. The Belleville resident was released on a promise to appear with conditions not to communicate directly or indirectly with the victim. He was given a September court date to answer to the charge. Names are being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
Shoplifters
On August 2o, 2018 at 8:40 p.m. police responded to a north end retail store with regards to two female shoplifters. The females were arrested by store security after attempting to steal overĀ $300 dollars worth of merchandise. Both females, aged 17 and 20, were released a short time after police arrived, on provincial offence notices for engaging in prohibited activity on private property which carries with it a set fine.
