The Belleville Police Service responded to 72 calls for service between August 8, 2018 at 5 a.m. and August 9, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Motor vehicle collisions
On August 8, 2018, police attended at five motor vehicle collisions. One occurred in a parking lot which was referred to the Collision Reporting Centre.
At 1:11 p.m. officers attended at a two-car accident on Dundas Street West at Palmer Road. One person was treated for minor injuries. A 36-year-old woman was charged with following too closely.
At 1:41 p.m. officers attended in the intersection of Dundas Street East at MacDonald Avenue as a pedestrian had been struck in the crosswalk by a van. The woman was taken to BGH by paramedics with a fractured knee. The investigation is continuing.
At 3:08 p.m. officers attended on Dundas Street East at Haig Road with regards to a single vehicle in the ditch. It was learned that the tire came off the vehicle and struck another car. There were no injuries.
At 3:19 p.m. officers attended on North Front Street at Earl Street with regards to a two-car accident. Airbags had been deployed and Belleville Fire and EMS attended. One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries. One driver was charged with failing to yield to traffic.
Attempted Robbery
On August 8, 2018, at 11:21 p.m. police attended at a bank ATM on Front Street. A customer advised that a male approached him and demanded his money. The customer refused to turn over any money and the suspect hinted that he had a knife. The suspect then left the bank machine empty-handed. No one was injured.
The male is described as white, 25-30 years of age, tall, skinny, moustache, wearing a black T-shirt and a ball cap. He joined a female outside the bank machine who is described as white, 25-30 years of age, bleached blonde hair, dressed all in a white and wearing a hoodie. They were last seen walking east on Bridge Street East.
Bail Violations
On August 8, 2018, at 11:47 p.m. officers conducted walk-throughs of the bars downtown searching for the suspects of the attempted robbery. The officers recognized a 41-year-old Belleville man who had been released on bail. His conditions contained a ‘no alcohol” clause as well as a curfew. The man was arrested and held for bail on August 9, 2018 on charges of two counts of breaching a recognizance and breaching a probation order.
Stolen vehicle
On August 8, 2018, at 9:42 a.m. police took a report of a stolen vehicle on Cannifton Road. Stolen was an unplated 2005 blue Ford Escape. The vehicle had been stolen some time over the last five days.
