The site of some 19th century mills in south Hastings County will be marked by a special ceremony this week.
The Hastings County Historical Society will dedicate its sixth historical plaque this summer to Lonsdale, the picturesque village that grew at the site of James Lazier’s mills.
Society President Richard Hughes tells Quinte News most towns settled around mills where you could grind your grain and cut your lumber .
Lazier had a woolen mill, a lumber mill, and a flour mill at the site.
The plaque unveiling will take place near the mill, at the bridge over the Salmon River, in Lonsdale at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Two local historians will be speaking at the event along with Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Mike Bossio and Reeve Rick Phillips.
This is the sixth of seven historical plaques being dedicated in Hastings County this summer by the Historical Society.
