The Belleville Police Service says it is committed to tracking down people who prey on children online and is releasing some details about a handful of recent internet child exploitation investigations.
The BPS has been part of a provincial strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation online since 2013 and works with a number of different organizations in Canada and the US to track potential online predators.
This year alone, at least three Belleville men have been arrested and charged in connection with ICE investigations.
Police concluded a one month investigation on February 7 of this year, arresting 53-year-old Peter Palmer and charging him with making child porn, making an arrangement to commit a sexual offence to a person under 16 and luring a person under 16.
His case is still before the courts.
In early May, a two month investigation led to the arrest of 49-year-old Dennis Christensen and later that month another two-plus month investigation saw 56-year-old James Fancy.
Both were charged with possessing child porn and making it available and both of those investigations are continuing.
The BPS says they have a number of current active ICE investigations on the go and anyone who is accessing, distributing, or making child porn in the city “will be identified using the latest technology and dealt with according to the law”.
