The Ontario Government’s plans to cancel the wpd White Pines wind project in Prince Edward County has taken its first big step.
Government House Leader MPP Todd Smith says the Urgent Priorities Act, which includes a stipulation that would end the nine turbine wind farm in South Marysburgh, passed first reading in the legislature on Monday.
When asked about the company’s claims it would lose hundreds of millions of dollars should the project get cancelled, Smith says the legislation actually protects their investment, retroactive to July 10, so it “would be in the company’s best interest to stop construction”.
Smith expects the bill to be debated this week.
It also includes stipulations to end a labour stoppage at York University, and to change the executive compensation structure at Hydro One.
