The new Ontario Government has put out a list of its top three priorities as the legislature resumes for the summer session and one of those items is sure to draw local interest.
During a media briefing today Bay of Quinte MPP and Government House Leader Todd Smith told reporters the PCs intend to put an immediate halt to the wpd White Pines wind project in Prince Edward County.
Smith was also questioned about the negative impacts of scrapping the cap-and-trade system.
A number of funding programs funded by cap-and-trade revenues have now been shelved, including one that was to provide hundreds of millions of dollars for repairs and green energy upgrades, to schools across the province.
Smith says in ending the cap-and-trade system the party was following through on a campaign promise and will find other ways to fund important initiatives.
Smith says the other priorities include introducing legislation to protect York University students affected by a labour dispute and ensuring no future governments can implement a similar cap-and-trade program.
