A new family doctor is expected to begin work in the City of Belleville in two years time.
At its meeting Monday afternoon Belleville city council will be asked to accept Dr. Miriam Layefsky into its Family Physician Recruitment Program.
Dr. Layefsky is from Belleville and is beginning residency at Queen’s University. She would begin practicing in the summer of 2020.
Under the program, the city provides a $150,000 scholarship paid out over six years to an approved family doctor or student.
A total of 29 doctors, 26 of them family physicians, have been accepted into the program.
