The recreation of a major train derailment in Tyendinaga Township 15 years ago will form the basis for an experiment on new technology for Hastings-Quinte paramedics.
The local paramedics are undertaking research on “smart” glasses which will allow them to send and receive real-time data during their on-the-job ambulance work.
Director of Paramedic Services Doug Socha.
The training has already begun.
On February 21, 2013, fiery explosions erupted on the CP Rail line near Melrose, northeast of Belleville, involving 65 loaded rail cars and 12 empty cars. Train 410-16 had derailed and its cargo exploded.
Dozens of area residents were evacuated.
Socha says the plan is to stage the train derailment recreation this fall to test paramedics using both the glasses and drones.
