It could cost twice as much to buy a burn permit in Prince Edward County next year.
A report by Fire Chief Scott Manlowe to tomorrow’s Committee of the Whole meeting recommends the fee for a permit, allowing people to have open air fires, be increased from ten to 20 dollars.
The permit fee hasn’t changed since it was introduced in 1998.
Manlowe says the number of permits issued each year has grown from 700 eleven years ago to over three-thousand this year.
