Quinte West OPP are setting out on a campaign to educate local cyclists and keep them safe.
Officers are starting a “positive ticketing campaign”, where they’ll be stopping cyclists on city streets and providing them with an educational safety package that includes red and white lights, a bell and some basic bike safety information.
The packages are provided in partnership with Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health and the City of Quinte West.
Drivers are also being reminded to keep a minimum of one metre away from cyclists when passing, to watch for approaching cyclists before opening car doors and to never drive distracted.
