Belleville police officers will be spending more time on the beat in downtown Belleville under a new system authorized by Chief Ron Gignac.
Now, police officers walk the downtown beat at least one hour during the daytime and at least one hour at night, seven days a week.
However, now another officer has been assigned downtown duty three days of the week between the hours of 10 and 2.
All of that is in addition to the downtown Belleville liaison officer Constable Mark Hall who works in the downtown five days a week.
