The cost to make Glenwood Cemetery what it was, could be in the hundreds of thousands.
The Picton cemetery was vandalized last week, with about 200 stones knocked over, and about 20 broken.
Manager Hemla Oonk says to purchase a new stone is between $2,000 to as much as $40,000 for a larger one. She says the average cost is around $5,000.
She says they have received an estimate to re-pin the stones, and place them back to an upright position. She says that could cost $50,000 – $70,000 alone.
Some residents have taken it upon themselves to replace the stones, however Oonk is asking them not to. She says someone could be injured, and the stones are not safe, as they could fall again, hurting someone.
The 62-acre property has insurance on the building and for liability, but not for the damage.
There is a concert fundraiser, along with an online fundraising drive underway.
