A squadron at 8 Wing Trenton has been recognized by the RCAF for its work supporting troops in Afghanistan.
436 Transport Squadron was awarded the Afghanistan Theatre Honour in March, to publicly recognize its efforts during the armed conflict in that country and the squadron flew its flag and held a parade at the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial today, to mark the achievement.
During the Afghanistan mission, 436 Squadron personnel and aircraft have been involved in transporting soldiers, equipment and supplies, along with tactical air lift duties within Afghanistan.
Between July 2008 and August 2011, 436 Hercules crews flew more than 28,000 passengers and over seven million pounds of freight in support of the Afghanistan mission.
In July 2006, 436 Squadron crews parachuted supplies including ammunition, food and water, to troops on the ground, the first time the RCAF has done an in-combat operation air drop since World War II.
This is the first Battle Honour the squadron will add to its flag since the end of World War II.
