Belleville could have its first medical marijuana production facility by the end of this year.
The proposal to develop a 200,000 square foot facility on University Avenue, in the former Exxon Mobil building, came before city council Monday night.
CAO of Fleurish Cannabis, Michael Smith, who presented the proposal to the Planning Committee last week did not appear at council, apparently because of scheduling issues.
The proposal received council’s approval without any comment.
This was in sharp contrast to the lengthy presentation and question and answer period at Planning Committee.
The company intends to focus on medicine for women in terms of relieving menopausal pains and sleep-related PMS.
Director of Engineering Rod Bovay tells Quinte News a “holding symbol” has been included on the zoning change, conditional on the company being licenced by Health Canada.
This would not be contingent on the federal government’s planned marijuana legislation regarding recreational marijuana.
