For the first time in his career at Queen’s Park, Todd Smith will not be a member of the opposition, but the government.
Smith picked up a significant victory in the new Bay of Quinte riding, garnering close to half of the vote.
Smith says he feels his team ran a perfect local campaign and is looking forward to being able to get some things done this time around.
Smith finished ahead of NDP newcomer Joanne Belanger, who says she’s disappointed but felt her team ran a strong campaign.
Belanger says she’s not sure who the next NDP candidate will be, but feels the party has gained a lot of momentum.
Finishing third was Liberal Robert Quaiff, who made his first jump into provincial politics.
Quaiff says he wasn’t necessarily surprised by the result, given Kathleen Wynne’s concession last week.
Quaiff added that he’s incredibly proud of the job his team did, despite the loss.
