Bayside Secondary School has another Provincial Rugby championship to celebrate.
The “She Devils” defeated La Salle Secondary School of Kingston 12-5 in the gold medal game to to capture their second straight Ontario High School Girls’ “AA” Rugby title in Stratford.
Paige O’Gorman and Nadia Stinson scored tries while Hanna Fitzgerald added a convert.
Bayside opened the championship tournament with a 54-7 romp over Notre Dame of Burlington. Nadia Stinson scored three tries while Paige O’Gorman added two. In their second game Alex Roberto and Amy Dirks scored two tries each to lead the “She-Devils” to a 34-10 romp over Grey Highlands of Flesherton. Bayside defeated Smiths Falls 19-15 in the semi-final. Alex Roberto led with two tries.
It’s Bayside’s third OFSAA girls’ rugby title and it’s the 12th year in a row it has been won by a Bay of Quinte High School. The Trenton Tigers have seven championships and the Quinte Saints have two.
Bayside is coached by Scott Dewar, JoAnne Robinson and Dusty Tibbs.
