The Belleville Police Service responded to 72 calls between June 6, 2018 at 5 a.m. and June 7, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Motor vehicle collisions
Police attended to five motor vehicle collisions within the last 24-hour period. Four were reported for insurance purposes for very minor damage. Two of these occurred in business parking lots. On June 6, 2018 at 3:39 p.m. police responded to a business in the north-west end of the city for a reported hit and run. One driver, while inside a business, came out to find that her vehicle had been struck by another. Police have witness information and are continuing to investigate. Bail violations
On June 6, 2018 at 7:27 p.m. police attended to a residence in the north-west portion of the city for a report of a man breaching his earlier bail conditions. A call was received about the man having contact and attending the residence of another person for which he was already on bail to not do. Police arrested the 19-year-old Prince Edward County man and took him into custody. The man, who was on bail conditions from earlier charges including assault, break and enter to a dwelling to commit an indictable offence, mischief under $5,000 and failing to attend court, was further charged with two counts of breaching an Officer-in-Charge Undertaking. He has since been released on a Promise-to-Appear in Provincial Court later this month. The name of the man is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
A city man is wanted by police after his surety revoked responsibility. The man was earlier released on charges of break and enter. Thirty-seven-year-old Shane Michael McFarland is now wanted on an arrest warrant for the surety revoke and a separate arrest warrant for Failing to Comply with a Recognizance. Domestic disputes
On June 6, 2018 at 9:50 p.m. police attended to an address on the west side of the city for a report of a domestic disturbance. An investigation resulted in police speaking with a 20-year-old female and a 22-year-old male on the scene. The dispute was regarding a cell phone and other property. Although an investigation is continuing, police did not receive any information involving injuries or property damage.
At 11:42 a.m. this date, police attended to the north end of the city for a reported domestic dispute in progress. Officers could not locate anybody on arrival. It was alleged that a man and a woman in their mid-twenties were involved in a physical altercation outside a business. An investigation revealed the complainant did not wait for police to arrive, and the other involved party left prior, with a young child. The investigation is continuing. Attempt break and enter
On June 6, 2016 at 3:26 p.m. police responded to a residence on the south-west side of the city for a reported attempt break and enter. An elderly gentleman reported that numerous window screens were pulled off his home. There was no further damage reported, or property taken. Police currently have no suspects. Attempted thefts
On June 6, 2018 at 10:19 a.m. police responded to a location in the east end of the city for a report of an attempted theft from the inside of a business. An investigation revealed a male was observed on video using a tool trying to break into coin machines. Police report the suspect was scared off by another customer, and fled the area. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect and are awaiting the download of the video. Anyone with information about this is asked to contact investigating officer Cst. Traffic enforcement
On June 6, 2018 at 2:04 p.m. the Traffic Safety Unit stopped a vehicle in the Pine Street and Golfdale Road area. An investigation resulted in a 46-year-old city woman being arrested and charged under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension, using plates not authorized for the vehicle, permit use of altered validation, failing to surrender driver’s licence and having a plate not plainly visible. The plates were seized and the woman was released on a summons to appear in provincial traffic court in July.
Other calls for assistance
Police attended to numerous other calls within the previous 24 hours including harassment, alarms, ambulance assist calls, trouble with youth, trespassing on property, unwanted persons, suspicious persons, and 911 hang-up calls. All occurrences were investigated and solved without further incident, arrests, or charges.
