Quinte West Council has heard again from concerned residents on Oak Lake about the need to improve that ecosystem.
Scott Symons told council Monday he’s done some research into the issues plaguing the lake, like smelly water, poor flows and low oxygen levels and is concerned that Oak Lake might “die” if those problems aren’t addressed.
Director of Public Works Chris Angelo says the request for proposals deadline has passed to hire a consultant for a study looking into those issues.
Angelo adds that once that study begins, they will be speaking with all of the affected stakeholders as part of the process.
Council has already budgeted $100,000 for the study and to address the recommendations that come out of it.
Meanwhile, the city did complete some culvert work in the area recently and Symons say it has helped to lower water levels on his property close to six inches, but there is a lot more that needs to be done.
