Reaction is pouring in from Saturday’s stunning announcement out of the Liberal Party of Ontario.
Premier Kathleen Wynne admitted yesterday that her party had no chance of winning Thursday’s provincial election, sending shockwaves through the party and across the political landscape.
Both local Liberal candidates had various degrees of surprise at the announcement.
Bay of Quinte candidate Robert Quaiff admits he was quite surprised at Wynne’s decision to admit and announce defeat, especially after their talk at Wynne’s visit to Belleville on Thursday.
In order to move forward, Quaiff says the obvious decision would be to make a change at the top.
Lou Rinaldi says Wynne’s decision wasn’t on his radar either.
But, the Northumberland-Peterborough South candidate says he and his volunteers will put this behind them and continue working hard to make an impact in the local community.
However, Rinaldi does admit it’s disappointing to see Wynne concede.
The latest polls suggest the Liberals could win fewer than eight ridings and lose official party status.
