UPDATE (12:50 p.m.): A protest planned for this afternoon in Madoc has been postponed.
The peaceful protest, which was to be held outside of the Centre Hastings municipal office, has been moved to next week due to weather concerns.
BJ Williams, who owns a business called BJ the DJ, disagrees with the municipality’s decision to not allow a large outdoor concert June 15 and 16.
Williams owns a home on Crookston Road on a large property and the live bands would perform there.
Williams says there will be no alcohol served and no charge to attend the event which he’s holding to promote his business.
The music would cease by 11 o’clock.
The municipality has issued a cease and desist order, saying the property is in a residential zone and events such as concerts are not permitted.
Williams says he’s been told that a large wedding reception featuring loud music would be allowed and has hired a lawyer to challenge the municipality’s decision.
He maintains that home-based businesses are allowed in the residential zone, and the concert would be part of his particular home-based business.
He says his nearest neighbor is 1,000 feet away and he’s consulted with neighbours and no one had objections.
The protest is planned for 2 o’clock.
