There is less than a month to decide on another new name for the consolidated Moira Secondary School.
The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board approved the recommendation to re-open the school renaming process on Monday night.
After the Board decided on the name Meyers Creeks after John Walden Meyers, it was brought to their attention he may have been a slave owner.
This prompted them to open the naming process again.
Director of Education Mandy Savery-Whiteway told the board they are hoping to have a decision for their next meeting.
She says this issue requires them as a board to look at how they provide safe, welcoming, inclusive, accepting learning environments and having a name that reflects those values is important.
Trustee David Patterson said he trusts the process and is sure they will come up with an appropriate respectful name for the school.
Savery-Whiteway says this process has been used a number of times in the recent past.
Other schools renamed have included consolidated schools in Bancroft, Prince Edward County and Centre Hastings, and new builds in Stirling, Tweed and Trenton.
Savery-Whiteway says the process will be similar to earlier this year she says.
She anticipates this process will begin later this week.
It is once again an online process but name suggestions can be submitted by email, by writing in or by calling the board.
Moira Secondary School will undergo renovations this summer and will consolidate students from Quinte Secondary School which will close this summer.
