The ongoing battle to allow a medical marijuana research facility at the former Nortel building on Belleville’s Sidney Street will be fought at a different level.
At Monday’s meeting, Belleville council will be asked to approve a lawyer to represent the city’s interests at an upcoming Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.
At a recent council meeting, an attempt to reverse a decision to not allow the research facility was lost, and the proponents have now appealed that decision to the provincial body.
Council had at first approved a re-zoning, but blocked it later after learning a small number of marijuana plants were to be grown on site.
