Search and Rescue Technicians from 424 Squadron at CFB Trenton were involved in rescuing two survivors of a small plane crash near North Bay yesterday.
The single engine aircraft was forced into a hard landing and overturned, after the engine failed and the pilot declared an emergency, about 40 nautical miles from North bay.
Both the pilot and passenger were spotted by a CC-130 Hercules during a flyover and then rescued by a CH-146 Griffon Helicopter and treated for some injuries, before being flown to North Bay Regional Health Centre.
424 pilot Captain Terrant Vernon-Jarvis credited the pilot for landing where he did saying there weren’t very many options to land “considering limited terrain”.
There’s been no update on the condition of the pilot or passenger and no word on what caused the engine failure.
