The City of Quinte West is taking action to help stop illegal dumping at the Mission Thrift Store.
At an announcement on Tuesday afternoon, the City detailed how they have partnered with the store and the OPP to help put an end to the dumping which has cost over $10,000 a year.
Chris Angelo, the Director of Public Works for the City of Quinte West didn’t sugar coat the message they are trying to send.
Deb Cook of the Mission Thrift Store says they are still taking donations, but only during business hours.
Cameras have been installed as well as prominent signage on the building to warn about illegal dumping.
Bylaw Enforcement Officer Carrie Smith says they anticipate that with the cameras in place it will in fact make their jobs a bit easier.
Mayor Jim Harrison says Mission Thrift Store is doing a fantastic job helping a lot of people and the City just wants to make sure people follow a few simple rules.
The camera feeds are monitored at the OPP headquarters.
If caught illegally dumping, fines begin at $200.
