Food truck allowed at Quinte West Farmer’s Market
In addition to approving the operating permit for the JERKebago restaurant, Quinte West Council handled some other business, on Monday night.
Councillors also went against another corporate finance committee and have allowed a food truck to operate at the farmer’s market on weekends.
There had been some resistance from nearby businesses, but council says the truck will be allowed to operate between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Deadline set for residents of Front Street home
Council has also set a deadline for residents at 315 Front Street to find a new home, after buying the property late last year.
Mayor Jim Harrison says the residents there will have until the end of August, before the city takes control of the property to assess it and decide what its next steps are.
The original plan was to demolish the home and make room to expand and improve the waterfront trail along the Trent River.
Local hockey teams honoured for provincial championship wins
Two local hockey teams were recognized by Quinte West Council on Monday night, for winning provincial championships.
The Minor Peewee Quinte Red Devils picked up an OMHA championship by beating the Markham Waxers 3-2 in overtime recently, after picking up three wins and losing to Markham in the round robin portion of the tournament.
The Red Devils will be hosting that tournament in 2019.
And the Quinte West Hawks won the OMHA major peewee “A” tournament as well, with a win over the Erie North Storm.
However, the Hawks were edged by the storm at the OHF all-Ontario tournament in overtime.
The major peewee Hawks were winners of tournaments in Ajax, Kingston and the Northumberland Silver Stick and finished as runners up in their International Silver Stick final.
