A large number of families in Hastings and Prince Edward counties take advantage of the health unit’s Healthy Babies Healthy Children program.
Program Manager Jackie Whittingham told the Board of Health Wednesday there are 80 families involved in the program right now.
She said there are usually 150 going through the process at any one time.
When questioned by board member Gord Fox about how the families who need the service are found, Whittingham said a special nurse is at the hospital five days a week, screening the families with new babies.
The program supports families with children at risk of poor developmental outcomes, through prevention and early intervention services, prenatally, at birth, and in early childhood.
