A Quinte West home was destroyed as a result of a chimney fire Saturday.
Around 5:30 p.m., fire crews from Station 3 in Bayside responded to the blaze at 387 White’s Road.
According to Fire Chief John Whelan, the fire spread quickly out of control and the chimney extruded through the interior of the house.
There was about $400,000 worth of damage.
The family cat unfortunately perished in the fire.
Quinte West received tanker support from Batawa and Tucker’s Corners in battling the blaze.
Crews were on scene dousing hot spots until around 11 o’clock last night.
Meanwhile, before 3 this morning, the Madoc Township fire department responded to an abandoned house on fire at 274862 Highway 62.
Belleville Police said they are looking into a communication link failure, as there’s reports of major phone and internet disruption in the area.
