Drivers parking their cars in downtown Belleville should be aware of some changes.
The city says it’s making things easier for drivers by upgrading the majority of its pay parking machines to accept credit cards and adding another lot for overnight parking.
All municipal lots, except for the Wilton Lot, have a credit card accessible pay machine and overnight parking is now being allowed in the central part of the Downtown Riverside Lot, where signs have been installed.
That’s in addition to the Riggs Lot on Pinnacle Street, where overnight parking is already allowed.
It’s also going to cost you more if you get a parking ticket, with set fine increases approved by council, going into effect earlier this month.
Outside of downtown, new signs are also being installed around Belleville General Hospital, so drivers parking in that area need to take note to avoid being ticketed.
