The Belleville Police Service is reminding residents that Gun Amnesty Month continues through April.
Anyone who has unwanted, or illegally-owned firearms, or ammunition and wants to get rid of them, can turn them over to the police.
Charges will not be laid against anyone who turns in an illegal gun, unless that weapon was used in the commission of an offence.
If you’re planning to hand over firearms or ammunition, you’re reminded not to bring them to the police station, but to contact the Belleville Police firearms hotline at 613-966-0882 ext 4867.
So far, Belleville Police have received four guns and 138 rounds of unwanted ammunition.
Ontario Provincial Police are also holding the same initiative this month and anyone who lives in an OPP-policed area should contact them.
