A proposal for a major development near downtown Wellington received the green light from Prince Edward County council Wednesday night.
Owners of close to one hectare of property at 192 Main Street in Wellington needed a rezoning to allow for 20 hotel units, including some in a four-storey building, seven cabins, and another building for commercial and restaurant use.
A resident in the neighborhood, which is near the beach in Wellington, protested the development as being unsuitable, but council supported staff’s recommendation to approve the plans.
An appeal could still be filed to the Ontario Municipal Board.
Meanwhile, the Bloomfield Town Hall will have a new lease on life.
County council rezoned the land the heritage building sits on to allow it be used as a tourist information centre and for retail/commercial use.
Bloomfield Town Hall is owned by Prince Edward County.
And, council has loosened up regulations on what kinds of businesses can locate in Picton’s industrial area, in the area of McDonald and MacSteven Drives.
Wednesday night, council rezoned the last available properties to allow a wider variety of uses, such as warehouse, office, restaurant, and other commercial uses.
Staff made the recommendation so the remaining properties would be easier to market.
