Quinte West Fire and Rescue responded to its first grass fire of the season this afternoon.
The fire was reported around 3 p.m. on County Road 5, near Wooler and was reported under control a short while later.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan is reminding residents that you need a permit to do any controlled burning on your property.
Most municipalities in the region have similar rules.
Whelan says if the fire department needs to be called to a grass fire at your home, and you were burning without a permit and found to be negligent, you could face a fine of $420 per truck, per hour.
