Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison has the utmost confidence they will be able to deal with flooding again this year if it were to happen.
Fire Chief John Whelan made a presentation to council on Monday night detailing the efforts that went into dealing with the flooding in 2017.
He said it didn’t cost the municipality too much as they utilized their resources and there were only a couple of areas that saw severe flooding.
Whelan also addressed why the municipality didn’t declare a state of emergency.
Harrison says declaring an emergency is a double-edged sword.
He says they learned a lot dealing with last year’s flooding and hopes they don’t need to draw on that experience again.
Chris Angelo, Director of Public Works and Environmental Services told council they are prepared just in case and they currently have ten skids loaded up with sand bags ready to go.
He also said flooding preparedness has been on their books for a number of years as part of their Emergency Management Planning because of the Trent River to the north.
