As part of the provincial Distracted Driving Campaign which ran from March 12 – 18, 2018 members of Central Hastings OPP laid 41 Drive with Handheld Communication Device charges. The charge of Drive with Handheld Communication Device carries a fine of $490 and three demerit points upon conviction.
Central Hastings OPP would like to remind drivers to make a conscious decision to remain focused on the important task of driving. Distracted driving occurs when a driver’s attention is diverted away from driving because they are focused on something non-driving related.
A texting driver is 23 more times likely to crash than a non-texting driver. Sending that one text while driving may seem harmless, but it’s a decision that could alter the course of your life and other lives too. If you’re ON THE ROAD, make a commitment to stay OFF THE PHONE.
