Dianne O’Brien will be at the helm come May 1 in Prince Edward County.
The councillor who is currently in her third term was elected acting mayor, once Mayor Robert Quaiff begins his leave of absence.
O’Brien was nominated by Roy Pennell.
Also nominated were Councillors Gordon Fox and Janice Maynard.
O’Brien told her fellow councillors she appreciates the opportunity and is totally committed to this council and Prince Edward County.
In the first round of voting, Fox led the way with six nods, followed by O’Brien with five and Maynard with two.
Maynard was then dropped as a candidate and councillors had to decide between Fox and O’Brien, with O’Brien emerging with eight votes.
Mayor Quaiff says he doesn’t think there could have been a bad choice made around the horseshoe.
Quaiff is taking the leave of absence to run as the Liberal candidate for the upcoming provincial election.
O’Brien will be acting mayor for a period of six weeks.
