The Belleville Police Service wants to connect more with young people and is beginning an awards program for students from grades one through eight in the near future.
The program will be known as the Youth Citizenship Awards, and police, students, principals and vice-principals will choose one student from each elementary school in the city from each grade to be honored.
From there, the award winners will sit on the Youth Advisory Council for one year, reporting to the Chief four times a year.
Deputy-Chief Mike Callaghan.
Students will be judged for the Citizenship Award by their behaviour to others in school and in the wider community.
